Merry Christmas From Sister Sommers

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monday night we had the grand island Spanish and grand island English sisters come stay the night in our apartment. for zone conference in the morning which is was fun getting to know them.
Tuesday we had zone conference and it went almost the whole day. President gave an amazaing training. He trained on the attonment. and he talked about the sacrifice we all are making for being away for chrsitmas and told us how blessed we are going to be and how this is going to be a very memeorable Christmas for us all. Then we had a few other trainings. Then we had lunch. Then president announced it was time for the gentile activities hahaha it was funny. Then we had a talent show. which was really funny. Then we had a giant white elephant game which was fun. and president and sister Weston had us all line up so they can give us each a Christmas gift from them to us and so they could hand it to us indivually and wish us all a merry chirstmas indeiviually. They gave us a book of all of our conversion stories it was really cool. Then they gave the sisters a pair of knitted slippers. one of the sisters here in Nebraska. Her mom knitted a pair of slippers for every sister out in Nebraska which was very nice. Then they gave the elders a bag of cookies. So it was a lot of fun!!! the zone conference was sooo much fun!!!
Wednesday we Did service for a lady and we learned how to quilt. and we helped her quilt a blanket which was soooooo much fun!!!!
Thursday we talked to one of our less actives who is struggling right now. and we told her that if she came to church on sundayshe will be able to see a change in her life and we promised her that. Then that night we got a call from her telling us all this goodnews that was happening and that everything is already changing and that she is going to church because havenly fqather is already blessing her. SO that was really cool. My comp and I got to see that promise blessings do work!!!! then we helped people move out of a house and we helped them load a truck.
Friday my zone went to the temple. Then they had us meet at the stake center. and we all road in the transfer van to Omaha. and we went to the temple. which was soo much fun!! I think this is my fav zone. they are all a lot of fun!!!! tongith the yankie hill sister came to sleep over at our apartment. They are staying with us for a week because they live with memebers and the members son came home for the holidays. SO they are staying with us till he leaves. so for about a week. We are so exicited it is so much fun having them with us!!!!!!!
Saturday we had a apt with our investigator who is getting surgrey on Tuesday on her back. and the elders in the ward and our ward mission leader came by to give her a preisethood blessing. and right before they came she was crying and said she cant walk and cant feel her leg because her back hurts sooo much. and that her leg was really swollen. and right after the priesthood blessings we taught her a lesson. and at the end of the lesson the swelling and redness was gone and she ssaid her leg didn't hurt at all anymore. which was really cool
Sunday we went back to our investigaotrs house to see how she was doing. and so I could frencch braid her hair for her before suregery. and she was telling us ever since the priesthood blessing her leg hasn't hurt at all! it was soooo cool
I hope yall have a merry Christmas. and I love yall so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really cool story!!

Hey everyone
So the elders in our ward told us this really cool story this last week. They told us that on Wednesday they decided that they really wanted to find service project really bad so they decided to pray really hard hoping that they will find service. and that same day a less active that we work with told us she needed some big things moved out of her yard and she asked us if we could get a hold of the elders to see if they could move it for her. So i sent a text to the elders asking them if they could do service for her. Which was really cool because they got the message i sent 10 min after they finished praying for service. and then they went outside in service cloths and they found so many people to do service for and they ended up doing service like the whole day. They said it was really cool and how receiving the message from us was an anser to there prayers. it was a really neat experience i thought
Tuesday we went and we taught a lot of lessons and we went and tried to find people.
Wednesday. We had zone training. which was really fun. we have a really good zone and we had a lot of good trainings. we taught our progressing investigator and she told us she didn't want to change and she doesn't belive she can change, and my comp and i were able to  tell her that she can change and its not to late to change. and she belived us so now this week we are hoping to start seeing a lot of progression in her. After that we went on exchanges with pioneer sisters. And we went to a dinner apt and they had a dog that looked just like oakly it was sooooo cute!!! after the dinner apt we tried to find people which we didn't have to much success which was alright.
Thursday we went on exchanges with nebraksa city sisters. They had two houses that they have been painting so we went and painted with them. then we traveled to Omaha and went on exchanges with elkhorn sisters. and that was a lot of fun we taught some good lessons and talked to a lot of nice people.
Friday we went on exchanges with lakeview sisters. they are really nice. we taught lessons and we had a lot of fun. we had a dinner apt that night and the daughter is turning in her mission papaers so she was asking us advise and stuff like that and she was just asking what she can do to prepare. it was a really fun dinner apt and she was really nice. She wrote our emails down so she could email us when she gets her call.
Saturday morning we did studies with the elkhorn sisters then we left and president called and said that there are some former missionaries that came back to visit the mission and he told us we could go to lunch with them. because they were super close to my compainion. So we went out to lunch with them and it was a lot of fun they were really funny!! after that we went to the trail center to drop some papers off. and one of the sisters i came out with i could tell she was struggling and having a hard time so i had a feeling to pull her to the side and talk to her and it was really cool cuz as i talked to her the spirit just spoke through me and told her exactly what she needed to hear. it was really cool. Saturday night we had ward correlation which was really good.

I love you all and hope everyone is doing really well!!!

I had Wonderful week!!

Hey how is everything going? I didn't get a chance to email yesterday because it was vetrains day so all the libraries were closed so our president told us we can all take an hour on Tuesday to email. This week was really good. we were super busy and have a lot going on.
Monday: For P day we went to the pioneer sisters house and we listened to music (don't worry it was church music) and we wrote letters and hung out. Then after that when p day was over my comp and I traveled to Omaha for exchanges.
Tuesday: we went on exchanges with the millard sisters. We had a lot of fun. we had a lot of fun and we taught a lot of lessons with them.
Wednesday: we were back in our area and we had district meeting and we taught some lessons. When I first came to the area in September we had an investigator drop us my first week here. and we had a feeling to call so her. So we called her on Wednesday and she said that she is so glad we called because she noticed that when she dropped us she could feel her life got harder. and she has been wanting to call us but she has been to scared. But she was happy because we called so now we are meeting with her again and teaching her again. Which we are super excited and happy about.
Thursday: we got a call this morning from one of the less actives we are working with and we found out that he is in the hospital.  So we went over to the hospital to visit him and we found out he as pneumonia and empyema. We were able to share a scripture with him and say a prayer with him. and we were able to call his home teachers so they could come give him a blessing.
Friday. we came up to Omaha again because we had leadership counsil. It was really good. There were a lot of really good trainings and it was a lot of fun. after leadership counsil we got to go on mini exchanges with the Florence sisters which was a lot of fun. We taught some really good lessons. Then after the mini exchanges my comp and I Drove to the elkhorn sisters house. and we spent the night there.
Saturday we went on exchanges with the elkhorn sisters. It was really fun. During one of our lessons we taught the restoration and I got to recite the first vision and it was really cool and a really powerful lesson. after that we went tracting for two hours and didn't get bored once. we had so much fun!!! and we had a lot of really cool experiences. One of the cool things that happened was we went to this one house and this guy answers the door and he says hes not really interested but he would listen to what he had to say. So we started teaching him a mini lesson on his front porch and in middle of the lesson he started crying and said wait here and he ran inside in house and came back out with a pic of his wife. and he told us that she passed away not to long ago. he said that he know his wife is an angel right now and that she sent us to him to help him out in his time of need. and he agreed for the missionaries to come back another time and teach him a lesson. It was a really neat experience!!!
we went to the trail center also to drop off some papers to sisters. Sister barton said sister sommers come here I need to show you something in the gallery. So she grabbed my hand and pulled me in there and she pointed at a map that the pioneers used to come to salt lake and she said what do you see? and I said I see a map that does not have a lot of details on it and its super hard to read. and she said exactly! the pioneers didn't know exactly where they were going but they knew the lord did so they trusted in him and they knew he would take them were they needed to be. Then she said sister sommers 2 years ago did you think you would be serving a mission right now. and I said no the age was 21 for missionaries then. She was like exactly and said that even though our map for ourselves may look like the pioneers did and our map for ourselves might not have a lot of details on it. the lord has a map for us and we just have to be faithful and put our trust in him and he will make sure we are following the map he has for us. She told me that when she was giving a tour someone in the group told her that so she wanted to share it with me. It was really cool and really true
Sunday it was fast sunday for us because the week before was stake conference. Every fast sunday the young women like us to come in and be in there class so it was fun being with the young women.
Will I hope everything is going great. I love you all!!!!

Working hard!!

On Monday last week we carved some pumpkins with the pioneer sisters. It was a lot of fun. Then after that my comp and I went over to our bishops house. We meet the elders in our ward there. And we had a meeting with our bishop on what his vision for the ward is and how we can get the ward to do missionary work with us. After that meeting we had a few more apts. Then we went back to our apartment and the Nebraska city sisters were there. They spent the night in our apartment with us.
Tuesday we woke up at 5 am and had to travel to grand island with the Nebraska city sisters for zone conference. Zone conference was really fun. we had some really good trainings and we learned a lot. it lasted all day. we got back to our apartment at 9pm and so the Nebraska city sisters stayed the night again.
Wednesday the Nebraska city sisters left. We went out and we taught a few apt. Then that night we went to our wards trunk or treat. And we saw a lot of less actives we are working with. Then after that we went to the stake center and we went to our sign language class which was a lot of fun. it was my first one and I was able to learn so much from it.
Thursday. during one of the lessons we taught it was a really hard lesson. The lady is going through a really hard trial and her faith is being tested really hard. So my comp and I at the end said a prayer with her and at the end of the prayer she said she was able to feel hands on her head and she had a really good feeling inside of her. and we told her that was the spirit then we told her we had to go. (we like to make the spirit really strong and then leave. That way when we leave the spirit is still there) for Halloween we had to be in by 6 pm or in a members home. our president said that he wanted all missionaries off the street by 6 pm. Our ward mission leader invited us to come to there house for Halloween. So we had a pizza party at his house and we carved pumpkins. and we just hung out it was a lot of fun.
Friday we went and tried people and taught lessons. around 9 at night the Nebraska city sisters drove up and spent the night
Saturday morning we went on exchanges with   the Nebraska city sisters which was fun. when we went to eat lunch we ate at noodles and the manager was Mormon and he gave us 50% off our meal which was really nice of him. We went and tried a lot of people and we knocked doors but we didn't have that much success. all the missionaries got invited to go to the stake center for the adualt conference of stake conference. and the whole time they talked about missionary work and how memebers and missionaries need to come together. it was really cool there were a lot of good talks
sunday stake conference they had a lot of good speakers and they talked the whole time about how members and missionaries need to come together. they actually invited our mission president and his wife to speak at stake conference. so it was fun to see them. and there were some really powerful talks.
I love and miss you all

Miranda first Baptism!!

So last monday we went to a pumpkin patch it was sooo much fun we had a blast! monday night we went to one of our less actives house and she told us she had a christmas gift for us and she wanted to give it to us now. So she gave it to us and she knitted both of us scarfs
Tuesday we had a dinner apt with a member then the member came with us on team ups after to teach the rest of our lessons that night. it was really fun and she was a really good team up. we had a lot of good lessons.
Wednesday we had district meeting and after my comp and i went with the nebraska city sisters out to lunch. They are the only other sisters in our district but us. So we went out to lunch with them. when we were sitting at the table a lady who worked there brought this fruit dessert over and said another customet bought these for us. it was really nice. we all felt like we were serving in utah for that moment. Then after lunch me and one of those sisters went out and taught some lessons while are comps went back to their house to sleep because they were both really sick. That night when we were teaching lessons a lady we were talking to gave us both a hat and  a scarf she said she made for us. so it was really nice of her.
Thursday my comp was sick so we had to stay in it was really boring. Lots of missionaries are getting really sick right now.
Friday we drove to the pioneer sisters house and we did studies with them. and we did splits that way i wouldnt have to stay in again. so i went out in the pioneer ward area and we taught some lessons then we drove back to my area and we all of our apt fell through so we decided to knock a lot of doors and we didnt find any new investigators from that but we did give out a lot of pamplets and pass along cards with our number on them. And we had a really good night knocking doors. and we taught a really powerful lesson that night. it was so great.
Saturday we had ward corrilation and we taught lessons and tried to find people
So that was pretty much my week we had a really good week we taught a lot of really powerful lessons we passed out a lot of pamplets. We had an investigator drop us which was hard. but we were lucky and we got a new investigator and she seems really intrested so we are super excited to start working with her.
I love you!

Made it through transfers!!

Hey how are things going? this past week was really good. On Monday we had dinner at the ward mission leaders house he was dead set sister vance was getting transferred so they had us over for dinner. (even though they have us over every other week and the week they don't have us they have the elders) But we had a fun dinner at there house like we always do.
Tuesday was transfer calls. Which is when president calls and tells us if we are getting transferred. He starts calls at 7 am and it goes till about 12 and so you just wait. We didn't get a call so we were very excited. Then we went to district meeting and we took our family photos (photo of our district)
Wends was transfers. Me and my comp were not getting transferred but we still went to transfer point because our car was getting transferred. Our car got transferred to grand island and we get there car.
Thurs we had an appointment with the lady we had set for baptism for October 12 that fell through. and she stood us up again and wasn't there for our apt we think that she is going to drop us :( it makes us really sad because we loved working with her and she kinda just stopped.... so we will see what happens..
Friday was temple day for our zone!!! it was so much fun the Omaha temple was sooo pretty we had a great time there!!! I cant wait till we get to go again.
Saturday was really good we had the baptism. It doesn't count as a convert baptism but we are still counting it as ours. 6 months ago this couple got baptized and there 8 year old daught decided she wanted to get baptized so she asked if we could teach her so she would forsure know she wanted to so we taught her all the lessons and worked with her and she got baptized Saturday she is so cute. now we are working with that whole family to get them to go to the temple.
Today we went to a pumpkin patch this morning it was soo much fun we went with 14 other sisters and 6 senior couples. it was soo much fun. the way we got the senior couples to go was teling them they could watch the pig races it was fun we had a blast there today!!!
Everything has been going great!! love you

We had a very eventful week this week. Lots of stuff happened it was a really fun good week. Last Monday for Pday we went to the zoo with some pioneer ward sisters. and while we were there we were petting a cow and the owner at the zoo walks over to us and said he was having a really really bad day because his brother past away exactly a year ago today. And he said he saw how much fun it looked like we were having and he had a feeling to just come over and talk to us. So we were talking to him and he gave us a lot of free food to feel the animals with. then he took us on our own private tour of the zoo. And he showed us his camel which is in the back were only employees could see it he had to unlock gates. This camel was over 2000 pounds and it was 26 years old and 20 years old is old for a camel. So it was really fun we had such a good time at the zoo.

On tues we had our triple T. Which is the trainer trainee training. So all the elders and sisters that came out the same day as me came to this training and all of our trainers  came to this training then they talked to us in a class room and gave us a training and they had our trainers in a diff room and gave them a training. it was really fun. we all had sooo much fun there.

On wend we had zone training which we had a lot of fun at it. At zone training our zone leaders carved pumpkins for their p day so they brought there pumpkins and put them on the tables at zone training.

on thurs we went on exchanges in Omaha with the lakeview and millard sisters. It was soo much fun we taught a lot of people and had a lot of fun. then that night we all went to a murder mystery dinner. it was sooo much fun. they did it for a relief society party it was sooo much fun!!

Friday we just taught lessons and vistited people

Satruday we went on exchnages with the pioneer sisters we stayed in the trendwood area though (which is my area) it went really good. I was with sister McMaster. and we taught tons of great lessons and we had everyone agree to come to church on sunday we had a really good day. and we were knocking on a couple of doors and and this guy came to us and asked if we were chirstan and he told us he loved jesus and he tries to follow him the best he can and so we tried teaching him but it was hard because he spoke Spanish so we got his number and gave him to the Spanish elders in our area to teach.
So to tops of such a great day we were driving to the capital to trade back with the sisters and we were stopped at the stop light and someone hit into the back of our car.... :( so we pulled off to the side and got out and the guy who hit us just got married the day before. But we had to wait for the cops to come (it took forever.) and we had to fill out a lot of papers and call the mission home. luckily no one was hurt and there wasn't that much damage done to the car. so we got really lucky. so it wasn't that bad. the mission home wants us to just go get our car checked today to make sure its safe to drive and make sure everything is fine on the car. but really it didn't even hurt the car that bad which was really good.

this week we have transfers. we find out tomorrow who is getting transferred and who is staying our president starts calling at 7 amtelling if you are getting transferred or staying or if your cars are changing so we will fine out tomorrow. then if we do get transferred we leave wend morning and meet at the transfer point. I hope I don't get transferred because I have a baptism this Saturday. And the girl who we are baptizing asked if I could speak at it. So I don't want to get transferred I want to see the baptism. and our zone is assigned to go to the temple on Friday. So if I get transferred I will miss that to,, I honestly don't think I will be getting transferred which is good.

okay will I got to go. I love and miss you! . I love it here in Nebraska its soo much fun!!

Tornado Sirens, and the Still Small Voice

Well my training went really good! I was able to give a talk in front of the other missionaries the other day! Elder Rollenberg talked first, and then it was my turn. I didn't feel nervous at all, I just got up and let the spirit speak. Everyone said it was really good, and Elder Summers kept referring back to it, when he gave his talk afterward. Even Sister Weston, the President's wife, came up to me and said she was super impressed with me!!

Oh! General Conference was really good; we watched it at the stake center. :)

So, my companion is going home soon but you wouldn't even know it because she is a sister training leader, so she is in charge of 6 of the other sisters' companionships. We are always going on exchanges every week, which are  a lot of fun and we have leadership meetings we have to go to which are also fun.

I am so lucky because I get to do all of the exchanges which most new missionary don't get  to do until they are out longer, so I am so blessed to do it.

Last Monday we got invited over to  a member's house for dinner and for family night. They had one of their friends over who is not a member of our church so they asked us to teach a lesson to her about the Book of Mormon, and the plan of salvation. It was not the most spiritual experience, because the entire lesson their 3 kids were running around and being really loud. So when we were done we asked her if she would read the Book Of Mormon and she said no. We didn't give up though, and we started testifying about the Book of Mormon and how it would bless her life, luckily the kids ran off somewhere, and it became really quiet and the sprit was strong. We asked her again if she would read it and she said yes. And after she said yes the kids came running back in! It was a really cool experience.

On Wednesday the tornado sirens started going off, and it was really loud. We had to take cover, and
I guess a tornado touched down 12 miles from us, and there were flash flood warning too.

Despite all that, things are going really good and I am so happy that I am serving a mission.

I love you all, and keep your letters coming ;)

Enduring to the End

Dear Family,

Things are going good here! They sure love there football here!!
My comp. is from Tremonton. She is 24 years old and she will be going home a few months, but she loves the work and does not want to leave.

We got a new investigator from a ward member so we start this week. We don't tract because we have so many referrals and investigators, so that keeps us very busy!!

We drive a Subaru 2013, it is really nice. My comp. gets to drive because she is the senior comp..

So our study this month is on the Book of Mormon our mission pres. says its because the Book of Mormon the musical is coming out and he said its a musical that pretty much makes fun of the church.
So they want us to study up on the book of Mormon like crazy...

They said 48% of the missionaries have been out here less then 6 months.
We have these things in our car called TiWi and they tell us to slow down if we are speeding and they text warnings to the mission house if we don't slow down or if we are driving past 9:30 pm and we have a card we have to put on it so it know who the driver is. And there are only a dozen missions who have them. They said that we are the 2nd mission who has the most cars.

They also said that between January and May in Omaha Nebraska there were no pros-lighting  areas for sisters, and they all worked in the trail center, and they only had 20 sisters. Now they have 60 sisters, and tons of areas opened up. So they said that because of all the new young missionaries a lot of them have been struggling and a have been close  to going home. So this month our president has been focusing on enduring to the end and staying strong through the trial. I get to go to the mission leadership training which are for the zone leaders and sisters training leaders because my companion is a training leader.

SO last night we drove to Omaha and we stayed in an apartment with the trail center sisters.
Then when we woke up we walked over to the trail center we went in winter quarters and they turned music on and we got to run or walk around, and it was fun. I hope that I might be able to serve there during my mission.

Can you guys google ways to prevent bed bugs because I don't want to get them. All the Big Bugs are gross here!!

I love you so much and I miss everyone so much Love sister Sommers. :)

Here In Lincoln Nebraska!!

Well, I'm finally in Nebraska!
The people here are really nice, and friendly. My mission president is also really nice; they really are all so sweet! We have also been super busy so the days go by so fast.

It's hot and humid here so there are a lot of huge bugs, and it's kinda strange because a lot of people are missing teeth.

Oh! And Nebraska is the 7th in the nation for bed bugs. So when me and my comp. get home at night we have to spray all of our clothes, us, and our stuff down with alcohol, to prevent are apartment from getting them.
It's soooo gross!!!!!

My first area is the Trendwood ward which is in Lincoln Nebraska.  My companion right now is Sister Vance and she has two more month until she goes home. We actually have two set of missionaries over our ward, because the ward is so big, they have us and a pair of Elders. They split the ward up half and half, so we get half the area and they get the other. We also have people who have us for dinner at least  three times a week. It is a really nice ward.

I love you tons!! I can only write on Monday, so you will only receive letters from me once a week. I really enjoyed talking to you guys on the phone though at the airport. Have you been getting my letters? I can only write on Monday because my mission president says he does not want us getting distracted. He says that if we get lost in the work and only write on Mondays than time will fly by and we'll be home in a blink of an eye.

Right now we have about nine investigators, and we have one with a baptismal date on October 12th.
We also have had to give up two of our investigators recently. We had to give one of our investigators to the University Elders today, and we are turning another investigator named Chris over to the Elders in our Ward.

There was a bit of confusion with the Elder missionaries in our ward and us because we were both told that we were going to be teaching Chris, even though only one of us can. We ended up deciding to let the Elders teach Chris to cheer them up, because they have been feeling down lately, and most of their investigators end up having us teach them because they prefer Sister missionaries. :)

We also recently went to Winter-quarters, and it was really cool. I hope for part of my mission I can serve there, it is a really neat and spiritual place.

I love you all so much and miss you tons!! Make sure to tell everyone to write!!

              Write back soon,
               Sister Sommers

Miranda's First Letter From the MTC!

The MTC has been a lot of fun, it reminds me of EFY! The spirit is so strong here and I feel my testimony growing everyday. The first day I got here was so hard that when I left you guys I started to cry, but I ran into Tasha Scheffler and she has really helped me.

My companion is from Ogden she went to Northridge, and she is so nice.  So far I was made a senior companion, and my companion and I were also called to be the music coordinators. It should be a lot of fun, even though I am not very musical. :)

I know this is where I a suppose to be! I love what I am doing, although I have to admit that the food here is not very good. Everyone else love it, but I think I just miss your cooking Mom.

When people ask me where I am from my district always says, "Don't let her skin tone trick you!" We have people here in our district from Hawaii and Arizona, but I am tanner then all of them!

The teachers here are the best, I am learning so much! They are tutoring all the missionaries to  understand the Book of Mormon easier.  We also taught our first real investigator as a district yesterday, it went really well.

I love everyone in my district! They are all so smart and the sprit is so strong with them. And something really cool is that when we fly out to Nebraska we will have 21 missionaries coming.

Well, I got to go!
I love you tons,
Sister Sommers

Called to Serve

"Dear Sister Sommers:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Nebraska Omaha mission."

For those who didn't see the giant title at the top of the page, our dear Sister Sommers is going to be serving in the great (and very flat) state of Omaha Nebraska for the next year and a half!

We are going to be keeping this blog for those who know and love Miranda to be able to follow her through the trials and triumphs of her mission.

So spread the word to family and friends, and please try to write emails or letters to Sister Sommers whenever you can (I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate it). Thanks! :)
